Matter of Faith: Heaven — what’s it going to be like?

From: Philip Sorensen

It is going to be incredible. Biblical writers could only describe it in earthly terms: streets of gold; city gates made of gorgeous gems; a place that did not need the sun or moon to shine because God is the light; a place where there were no more tears, suffering or pain; and where sin does not exist. Heaven is a place where God reigns and his presence permeates everything, everywhere. The Bible says that “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, nor can we imagine what God has prepared for those who love Him.” -I Corinthians 2:9

Is everyone going there? I don’t think so! Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people. Those who have no time for God on earth would be out of place in Heaven. Eternity will only confirm what we are in this life; it won’t change anything. Being a child of God is a matter of having a faith relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

As believers, we can look forward to this mortal body putting on immortality, being changed in a moment, receiving a glorified body like his resurrection body. No, we won’t be angels, floating on clouds and playing harps. We will have the honor of serving the King of Kings and Lord of Lords forever. I’m looking forward to that and I hope you are, too.
