Local students win human rights essay contest


The Winona Human Rights Commission has named the winners of their annual essay contest for area students in grades 5 through 12.  The essay topic was, “What does Human Rights mean to me, and what role does it play in my life?”

The winners are:

•    First place - Alessia Velasquez Nitti, junior, Cotter High School

•    Second place - Stephani Cardenas, junior, Cotter High School

•    Third place - Kate Casey, ninth grade, Winona Senior High School

•    The essay contest winners will each be awarded a Visa gift card and a certificate.
