MMAM opens two exhibitions in April

(4/28/2021)

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) in Winona, MN, is opening two new temporary exhibitions this April. “Twentieth Century British Marine Master Artists” opened on April 16, and “Water: Shots Magazine Group Exhibition” opens on April 30.

On exhibition in “20th Century British Marine Master Artists” are historic and contemporary marine scenes by several of the best British marine artists of the 20th century. See works from the MMAM collection by Roy Cross, Montague Dawson, Louis Dodd, Henry Scott, and William Bishop, exploring a variety of subjects such as seascapes, ship portraits, naval battles, whaling vessels, and Mississippi River steamboats. “Twentieth Century British Marine Master Artists” runs through June 13, 2021.

“Water: Shots Magazine Group Exhibition” features photographs by 39 national and international photographers exploring the theme of water. Their images were selected by jury and printed in the summer 2019 issue of Shots, The Quarterly Journal of Black & White Photography, published by St. Paul, Minn., photographer Douglas Beasley and editor Elizabeth Flinsch. The artists’ photographs have a wide range of styles ranging from detailed to panoramic, realism to abstraction, and personal and intimate to accessible, in their responses to water. “Water: Shots Magazine Group Exhibition” can be seen through September 5, 2021.

There is always something new to experience at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, your nonprofit art museum that engages visitors in meaningful visual art experiences through education and exhibitions that explore the ongoing and historic human relationship with water. It is located at 800 Riverview Drive in Winona and is surrounded by acres of native prairie gardens along the Mississippi River. Gallery and MMAM Store hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
