Pickwick art show focuses on light in spite of darkness

Starting on Monday, April 26, students of the Winona State University Design Program are set to inaugurate their senior show capstone art exhibition with a grand opening to the public at Pickwick’s Lake La Belle. The exhibition, titled “Luminous,” sheds light on the recent forced period of isolation and introspection. The theme of “Luminous” is to meditate on the light that shines through dark times. The participating senior students Katelyn Biernat, Camden Ellingson, Erika Olson, Bryanna Peterson, and Elizabeth Pierce will each showcase personal reflection, memories, and emotion to envision the positive outcome of the previous year. Members of the community are encouraged to come and engage with the installations from April 26 through May 7. An artists’ talk will be held over Zoom on Wednesday, April 28, at 5 p.m. During this time, each artist will be taking questions and talking about the concept of their respective installation. The location of the exhibition is 24813 County Road 7, Winona. Go to design.winona.edu/2021SeniorShow/luminous-show/ to find out more information about the virtual artists talk.
“Luminous” is a meditation on the light that shines through the darkest of times. This exhibition serves as the window into the soul of five designers each expressing their story of how they unearthed a brighter world despite the introspection and personal conflicts that took place in the fever dream of the previous year.
