20th annual Bluff Country Studio Art Tour – where art is made

(4/7/2021)

From April 23-25, 2021, artists in Southeastern Minnesota’s Bluff Country will open the doors to their creative spaces for a behind-the-scenes studio view not usually offered to the general public. During this annual self-guided event, these accomplished artists will be displaying their work, demonstrating their processes and selling pottery, paintings, turned wood items, jewelry, fiber arts and more. Set your own pace while driving through the scenic hills and valleys of Sutheastern Minnesota’s Bluff Country exploring one of the area’s best attractions: our artists.

Tour Coordinator Sue Pariseau says, “The Bluff Country Studio Art Tour is free to the public so don’t miss this treasure filled spring adventure to see the places where art is made.” Participating studios, galleries and shared spaces are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 23-25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

After the cancellation of so many art events over the past year, participating artists are excited to be able to offer this annual favorite again. With the assistance of a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, measures have been taken to help assure everyone stays safe while visiting the area’s studios. Properly worn masks are required at all locations, hand sanitizer is available for use before handling the art and reminders to stay six-plus feet away from others will be deployed to keep artists and visitors safe.

For those who aren’t comfortable visiting the studios yet, the group has produced a series of videos featuring several studios as short virtual tour. These videos are available on the tour’s website and YouTube channel.

“We are very excited about a mobile app we have released to help visitors as they travel the area during the tour” says Pariseau. “Each year we print thousands of our tour brochures and made a decision to be kinder to the environment.” The app lists participating artists/galleries near the user, provides directions and will also have a directory of our sponsors who provide food, beverages and lodging to help users keep up their energy for the weekend adventure. The Bluff Country Studio Art Tour app is free and available for Android and iOS devices in the app stores.

As the event transitions to the use of their mobile app, tour brochures will still be available and can be found at participating locations, the Winona Visitor’s Center, Lanesboro Visitor’s Center, Lanesboro Arts or may be requested using the contact form on their website.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council and Minnesota State Arts Board thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund. Additional support provided by the River Arts Alliance.
