The #IBelieveYOU Fundraiser was created as a way to educate the Winona community on sexual violence while raising money for a sexual violence support group for local victims and survivors, as there currently isn’t one. Because April is Sexual Violence Awareness Month, the event will be held on April 12th at 4 p.m.
In 2020 alone, The Advocacy Center of Winona served 615 individuals. One hundred and two were victims of sexual violence, of which 58 were children.
The virtual kick-off event consists of an educational presentation on what we as community members can do to support sexual violence victims, as well as an open question and answer session with Winona State University, The Advocacy Center of Winona, Family & Children’s Center, Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center, the Winona Police Department, and the Winona County Sheriff’s Office. To join, visit minnstate.zoom.us/j/98759168046.
There will also be a five-day virtual auction, which will go live during the kick-off event. Items were donated by many local businesses and community members to help fund the new sexual violence support group. Follow @IBYWinona on Facebook for more information.
