Scott, Thomas Jay

Thomas Jay Scott, 63, of Winona, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 11, 2021, at his home. Tom was born on December 16, 1957, in Winona to Carol (Drussell) and Jay Scott. Tom was raised in Winona and attended the Winona Area Public Schools.

On May 6, 1978, Tom was united in marriage with Mary Ellen Schneider at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, and together they raised three sons.

Tom started his career in the 1970s with the original Canamer Company in Winona. As his passion for agricultural sales grew, it led him to Fresno, Calif., and later returned him and his young family to the Midwest in the 1990s. Tom was currently employed by J&M Industrials, Inc., in Ponchatoula, La.

Tom greeted everyone with a warm smile, a quick joke, or a trick up his sleeve. He enjoyed many hobbies over the years and was a jack of all trades. He was an expert wood maker, motorcycle enthusiast, avid golfer, jet skier, fisherman, treasure seeker, and was fascinated by all that is paranormal. Most of all, Tom loved his family. He looked forward to weekly Sunday dinners with his wife, sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Each visit, his grandsons would run to seek him out upon their arrival to find treats and treasures that Tom would keep in a special place just for them. In September 2020, Tom finally got his little girl; his granddaughter was born, and his heart was filled.

Tom is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Brandon (Amber) Scott and their sons, Kullen and Kyle, of Winona; Garrett (Chelsea) Scott and their daughter, Rilynn, of Winona; and Jordan Scott, of Hammond, La.; siblings, Terry (Laurie Potter) Justin, of Washington, Michael Justin, of Washington, Steve (Tammy) Justin, of Florida, and Michelle (Bill) Maytidu, of Colorado; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Fred (Loretta Smith) Schneider, of Idaho, Rich (Kim) Schneider,  ofWinona, and Diane Schneider, of Winona; as well as many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, with all of whom he made a special bond.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jay Scott; mother, Carol Justin; brother, David Scott; and parents-in-law, Wilfred and Eleanor Schneider.

Services are entrusted to Fawcett Junker Funeral Home in Winona. Words of sympathy or remembrance may be left at Refer to the website for the scheduled service.
