Winona County offers vaccine signup for seniors

Winona County launched a new online and phone-based signup system today for residents 65 and older to join a waiting list for county-run COVID-19 vaccination clinics.

The system will get eligible county residents on a waiting list for county-run vaccination clinics only. Other vaccinations sites — such a health care systems, pharmacies, and a state-run vaccination clinic in Rochester, Minn. — each have their own separate signup systems. A breakdown of how to signup for all of the publicly available, local vaccination sites may be found at www.winonapost.com/Article/ArticleID/71692/Where-to-find-local-vaccines.

Winona County’s signup system is available at form.jotform.com/winonaco_em/over65. Residents without internet access may call 507-457-6375 on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to sign up. Individuals must be Winona County residents and age 65 or older to qualify.

“Complete the online form for each person in your home who is age 65-plus,” county staff explained in a press release. “After completing this form, you will be on a COVID-19 vaccination request list with public health. As vaccine supply permits, staff will randomly select from the list and call or email to make sure you can receive the vaccine and schedule appointments.”

“Kindly wait for our call rather than calling our office to help keep our precious phone lines open for others,” county staff continued. “If you receive vaccination elsewhere, please share this information with our scheduling staff when they contact you so we can remove you from this list.”

This is the first time that eligible members of the general public have a way to register for the chance to get shots at Winona County Public Health vaccination clinics. The county previously relied on Winona Health and Gundersen Health System for referrals of 65-plus patients, as well as rosters from county-run social services programs for 65-plus individuals, but until now, there wasn’t a way for local seniors who weren’t already on those lists to join the county’s waiting list. Neighboring counties launched similar systems earlier this year.
