Mail votes shouldn’t be politicized

I am writing because of my concern that there are forces at work attempting to undermine our democracy. In this country, we need to ensure that every single ballot cast is counted. There are many people who would see votes thrown out to better their own ends. This is a distinctly un-American and un-democratic point of view. In the middle of one of the strangest and most stressful election years in our nation’s history, it is more important than ever that the government elected reflects the views of the people. The people of Minnesota have been coming in out in greater and greater numbers for years to prove that we have one of the safest and most secure election structures in the country. I myself transplanted here and found it wonderful how easy it was for me to register and vote here in Minnesota. In the middle of a global pandemic, and as the state of Minnesota has record case increases those of us who decided to vote by mail should not be punished by having our votes undermined and politicized. We chose to participate in our democratic system in a way that keeps ourselves and our loved ones safe. What is clear, is that our nation desperately needs election legislation to ensure that the right to vote in this country is protected and held up to the standard of importance that it deserves.
