Winona State gymnastics head coach Beckie Rolbiecki has announced her retirement from the institution. For the past 16 years, Rolbiecki has led the Warrior program, playing a major role in reestablishing the proud tradition of Winona State gymnastics.
Rolbiecki was hired in 2005 and led the Warrior program into its first season of competition in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) that same year. Rolbiecki earned WIAC Coach-of-the-Year honors in 2006, 2008, and 2016. She also garnered National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Regional Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2016 and was tabbed the NCGA National Coach of the Year in 2010.
Within WIAC competition between 2005 and 2020, Winona State finished third overall on four occasions (2008, 2009, 2010, 2016). As a team, the Warriors also reached the NCGA National Championships in the same seasons with a pair of fourth-place team finishes in 2009 and 2016, respectively.
Rolbiecki mentored 31 NCGA All-America selections and her teams account for all the current top-10 vault scores in Winona State history. Rolbiecki’s student-athletes own 18 additional all-time best marks in various events. In 2016, Winona State set the program-record highest team score with a 191.65 mark in a triangular meet with the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse and Lindenwood (Mo.) University.
Additionally, Rolbiecki saw 45 WSU gymnasts earn Academic All-America honors in her time at Winona State. Warrior gymnastics squads consistently finished in the top quarter of all WSU teams in terms of cumulative GPA during Rolbiecki’s tenure.
Prior to her position at Winona State, Rolbiecki served as the head coach of the Winona Senior High School program for 23 years where she was named Big 9 Conference Coach of the Year eight times and was honored with a Minnesota Girls Gymnastics Coaches Association Hall-of-Fame selection.
Current Winona State assistant coach Aixa (Ace-a) Evenson has been named the interim head coach for the 2020-21 season. A full search will be conducted at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season.
