1 book a month for kids birth to age 5

The Friends of the Winona Public Library announced the opening of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Winona County. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library encourages a love of reading by sending free age-appropriate, high-quality books to registered children ages birth to five, every month.

“During this uncertain time, it is very important to get books in the hands of kids. Reading together is a chance to learn and bond as a family. We are so excited that the Friends have brought this invaluable service to the community,” said Tricia Wehrenberg, youth services librarian at Winona Public Library.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is brought to Winona in part by the Donna Helble Literacy Fund of the Winona Community Foundation. “Donna Helble was a tremendous advocate for increasing childhood literacy. When she directed a significant gift through her will to the Winona Community Foundation, her one request was that the foundation board of directors would make grants to support childhood literacy. When the people at the Winona Public Library approached us for funding Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, it was easy for the board to say ‘yes, this aligns perfectly with Donna’s request,’” said Nancy Brown, president/CEO Winona Community Foundation.

This program is free to anyone who lives in Winona County with children ages birth to five years old. People interested in registering their children or learning more about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library should visit https://imaginationlibrary.com/.
